![]() Shoshanna is from Arcata, in the redwoods on California’s North Coast. She has danced throughout her life in Ballet, Jazz, and Modern Dance, but has found her art in the dances styles of the Middle East. She is very interested in the thoughtful fusion of diverse styles of dance, and the power of dance as a vehicle of expression and personal interpretation of music for an audience. Shoshanna’s interests lie in a strong foundation in Arabic dance (focusing on the “classical” styles of the earlier part of this century) with a fusion of Spanish influences and Lyrical Modern dance inspired by her extensive dance training. Shoshanna is a dedicated improvisational dancer whose specialties are working with four-yard veils, fans and skirts, and who values any opportunity to perform to live music. In 2000, Shoshanna was invited to perform in the Fourth Annual IAMED Awards Show (International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance) in Los Angeles, CA. The resulting video is the first that she has appeared on, dancing to the violin solo “Ahlam” by Georges Lammam. In August of 2001, she danced in Fahtiem's extravaganza, Dance Oaisis Magic in Los Angeles. Shoshanna produced her own performance video in early 2002, Shoshanna In Performance vol. 1, which has been met with very positive reception across the country. She also constantly works with her troupe, the Lailaa Chandani Dance Ensemble to explore diverse choreographic styles and to produce a variety of events in her local area. In her troupe, she works with a wonderful group of technically superior dancers willing to learn from many teachers and about many styles who can dance as a cohesive whole as well as pursue their own interests. She works to cultivate an atmosphere of openness, flexibility, and enthusiasm that comes across in class and on the stage.
Shoshanna has studied with many noted teachers including Dalia Carella, Elena Lentini, Mahmoud Reda, Momo Kadous, Jihan Jamal, Tamalyn Dallal, Leila Haddad, Ma*Shuqa Mira Murjan, Amaya, Aneena, Shareen El Safy, Suhaila Salimpour, Cassandra, John Compton, Shukriya, and others. Shoshanna has had the great fortune to dance with many fabulous musicians such as: Georges Lammam, Elias Lammam, Salaheddin Takesh, Abdula Kadou, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Souhail Kaspar, Faisal Zedan, Mimi Spencer, Joshkun Tamer, Ellen Cruz, Light Rain, the Brothers of the Baladi and many more. Currently, Shoshanna is faculty of Middle Eastern Dance in the Department of Theatre, Film & Dance at Humboldt State University, from which she graduated in 2003 with her BA in Art with concentrations in Art History and Graphic Design, minors in Psychology and Dance, and a Certificate of Art Museum & Gallery Practices. Locally, she volunteers in many community projects such as COAC (The Council On Adoptable Children), Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the North Coast Repertory Theatre, as well as working as a graphic designer - you can see samples of her work at the site of her "alter ego" -- www.roseanthonydesign.com. She is also the founder, president, and now adivsor of the HSU Middle Eastern Dance Club, which organizes and performs at many campus and local festivals and hosts dance seminars with noted instructors. |
