DANCE THERAPEUTICS
Summer Workshops on Saving your Belly Dance Body
with Deb Rubin
Drawing from Deb’s work in Core-integrated Yoga for Dancers, Traditional Thai Massage, Yoga Therapy, as well as over 10 years experience in the field of holistic health and mind/body medicine, these special workshops address injury prevention and self-care, offer ways of protecting overused areas of the body (such as psoas, low back, and hips), and deepen core-integration practices to stretch, strengthen, and activate the body in preparation for DANCE.
This is a great foundation for any level dancer of any style dance (not just belly dancers!) and necessary knowledge for teachers in their tool kit of how to break down and explain safe, proper technique and give one-on-one student feedback and attention to detail.
Please come with your specific injury questions and concerns.
Deb Rubin, MA, CMT, RYT is based in San Francisco, CA. She has been a life-long dancer and performer trained and proficient in many styles, including Salsa, West African, Modern, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, 5-rhythms, Contact Improv, Gymnastics, and of course Tribal Fusion Belly Dance. Tuesday, July 21, 7:00-9:00pm
The Spine and Lower Body
As dancers, we put a lot of wear and tear on our hips and legs!
This workshop will address biomechanics and dance therapeutics for the Lower Quadrant of the body, particularly hips, gluts, legs, and spine/back. You will be guided through an effective series designed to radically open up muscle tightness of the lower quadrant, re-align posture, address common bellydance injuries, enhance spinal stabilization and core strength, and balance instabilities in the body that lead to compensation and injury. Bring a yoga mat and strap. |
Wednesday, July 22, 7:30-9:30pm
The Neck and Upper Body
Free up the Neck/head, Shoulders, Spine, & Side body to create that intoxicating look and feel of ridiculously slow, slinky bellydance; allow for sharper isolations; and create more fluid, articulated movements from the head to the fingertips. Focus will be on the importance and biomechanics of the shoulder girdle, and how it relates to –well--everything you do in dance. Also on healthy backbending and saving the spine! Hands-on adjustments given. All material will then be applied to bellydance posture, technique, and combos, with particular focus on arms, core, and ribcage.
*This material will radically altar your dance technique and give you lasting tools! |
